flip kit questions

Last truck I lowered ('93), I used hangers/shackles and removed a leaf to get it down 5"...rode like crap (banging frame all the time) and had zero hauling in bed capacity.
I want to lower my '81, and am wondering if a flip kit will give me a decent ride and allow me to haul a few pounds in the bed without laying on the frame and rubbing the tires?
Anybody have experience here?

I installed a flip kit on my 84 SWB. I removed the factory bumpstop and bracket and replaced it with a shorter aftermarket bumper, so I have the same clearance between the axle tube and frame that I had before.

It seems to have the same load capacity. The ride is stiffer, but that may be a result of the poly spring bushings I installed at the same time or the drop shocks. I plan to put stock shocks back on with the schock extenders and see if that helps.

Compared to my bother's stock 96 the ride quality on this is terrible, but it wasn't as good even when the suspension was stock. I have just accepted the idea the old short beds ride like old trucks.
