4spd trans question

hey guys that 68 chev 2wd my dad and i scooped for parts has a 4spd in it, feels nice and tight unlike the 4spd in my 71 gmc, im thinking about putting it in the gmc but i was just wondering if its a direct swap into the 4x4 or if they are a different tranny in the 2wd as upposed to the 4wd

thanks, Derek

I think the output shaft has more splines on the 2wd versus the 4wd so it might not be a direct swap.

4wd 4spd are 10 Spline.
2wd 4spd are 31 Spline or something close to that.

Yep, it can be done. You have to tear both trannys down and remove all the guts to swap the mainshafts.
