I have a cab with a clean title and vin for a C35 GMC. Has the high hump and all. But from the sound of it your trying to go for a numbers truck!

Not sure how it is where you live but in TX the title follows the frame with trucks not the cab. Found that little piece of information out from a local detective who worked auto theft for years.

Accidently found a VIN on a frame myself, but if A truck is wrecked real bad/frame damage or? -Then that could explain some things. But here in Kansas, well thats another story!!!

Doesn't make sense for the title to follow the frame, the cab has the VIN tag on it. I know they put the VIN number on the frame, but what if you built a custom frame for a truck?

I've never even had someone check a VIN plate in Minnesota, they just want your money. Maybe it's different in other parts of the state.

Each time I registered mine, here in Oklahoma, they came out and compared the VIN plate.

The frame number is easy to take care if your state requires that too. Any good set of numbering punches will produce the exact same thing as the factory frame stamps. The vin plate is the piece they mainly look for and can not easily if at all be duplicated. Funny thing with Nebraska I had a 72 4x4 with an out of state title inspected to regiester it here and when the inspector came out to look at it the VIN plate it was just laying in the windshield on the dash and I think they never thought twice about it not being riveted in. I was prepared to show them the glovebox label serial number to prove it belonged on the truck.
