Frantz oil filter ,or not???
Recently bought a fairly clean and solid 67 GMC 3/4 ton 2 w/d longbed
w/ 305 V-6 & 4-speed. Prev. owner had installed a Frantz "toilet paper" oil filter. I don't have a great deal of experance/knowledge with that filter setup. I've heard that back in their day, a better filter could not be bought. However today's toilet paper is now much too soft, scented, mushey,foo-foo etc. to be used as an oil filter. Has anyone had any good or bad experances with this oil filter that they would like to share with me? Also, does anyone know of an oil filter made that would take the place of the roll of toilet paper and still fit inside the Frantz canaster? Thanx for all replies. rwgregory Last edited by rwgregory; 04-06-2005 at 03:59 AM. |

Obviously you haven't bought any "Dollar store" TP lately! Edb is the only person I know that runs one of those filters but he seems to like it.

I'm from the land of sandy beaches, terrible gas prices, outrageous mortgages,
and oh yes... foo-foo toilet paper. San Diego, California. rwgregory |

From what i understand, the cheap stuff that scratches you instead of cleans you is still one of the best filtering medias.

I had actually been looking into these filter but for an air applicataion not so much oil.
They're still avaliable under the name motor guard . http://207.44.196.117/vboard/forumdisplay.php3?f=3 I just clicked and found this one on line.. Ive seen other and cheaper also. Not sure if these air ones are the same as oil ones. I watched an ebay oil one a couple days ago. But was probably for older vehicle. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

You can replace the canister filter with a newer spin-on type. Both of the oil filter housings bolt on to the block. The spin on housings are a little hard to find. I sold one last week for $30.
