Cool Motor ?'s

As some of you may remember from an earlier thread I started I have pulled the motor out of my 72 C20 it is a BB 402. I am not really sure about it so I have a few questions and some have been answered so sorry if you already helped with this. This is a stock motor as far as I know it has never been out of the truck and has had no aftermarket stuff done to it (minus wires plugs coil) that kind of stuff. Also I don’t know if these things are interchangeable with all big blocks or big blocks that go in cars or trucks. All help is greatly appreciated.

1. what kind of lifters? diameter, height, etc..
2. what kind of pushrods? diameter, height, etc...
3. stock heads? oval or round
4. will any headers work? BBC, 396-502, Truck, Car etc.....
5. will any intake work? BBC, 396-502, Truck, Car etc.....
6. will the HEI help? a lot, some, not really

Those parts are all interchangeable, the only thing is that if you have oval port heads and you switch to rectangular port heads, you have to change the intake to rectangular ports as well.

Just watch you don't get parts out of a junk yard from a large truck they will be the tall deck, 366,427. Then the intakes will be different because the block is 1/2" taller from centerline than passenger car/light truck.

As long as it's not a tall deck aka 366/427 hd truck motor most parts will interchange. Distributors for small and big block will swap.

If you are going to rebuild the engine just get parts for that motor. I would first make sure that I had ID'd the motor correctly.

Sorry, I forgot about the tall decks. "All" bolt-on parts from any big block (with the exception of tall deck ) are interchangeable. Car or truck doesn't matter.
