Close Ratio Steering ?
Does anyone know what close ratio power steering box fits our trucks? Not sure if this has been answered on here before or not, as I'm fairly new here.

The only 'improved' steering boxes I know of are variable ratio. There is a box that went on some of the late seventies crew cab trucks, and then there is a new aftermarket version from AGR, for about 350 clams. I just installed a new AGR unit in my Longhorn, it was a direct bolt in, no mods, and it works good. It is not like a sports car type close ratio, but it takes a lot less spinning of the wheel to turn. The AGR unit is variable 13:1 to 16:1. Since it is a new unit, it's my recommendation. I did a brief thread on this, but didn't get much attention from anyone. Its a shame, because its such a great unit.

I got the '85 PS box thats in my '67 rebuilt by this guy. He has the quick ratio steering boxes too. Can't remember the name of his company, but the owner is Chip Woyner 417-864-6676. His prices seem reasonable, he is very knowledgeable, and he has the very thing you are asking about.

That's the info I was looking for.....thanks guys......The reason I asked this, is because I saw the testing of "Copperhead" and Stacy mentioned the closed ratio box. I must have missed the show when it was installed.......I'm hoping that I could just find one at a bone yard instead of forking over the big bucks for aftermarket.

I have an Early Classic quick ratio box on the C10. It cuts out a full turn lock to lock. It seems like I read somewhere that a 79 C10 is the same thing. I don't know if thats true but it is just what I read. I am very happy with the Early classic box.

Get one out of an 80`s truck, you have to also use the newer pump with them. Hope this helps.

Why do you have to use the newer pump? I know that somewhere along the line they went to metric/o-ring fittings but I thought if you stayed with the regular flare box you only had to change the box not the pump too?
Please enlighten me as I want to make this change. Thanks - Bob

Bob, I`m not exzacly shore what the difference is, maybe the pressure or flow rate. The only reason i know is I tryed just the box and it didn`t work for crap untill I switched the pump to. Pumps - new 73-up old72-down you migth be able to take the internals from the new and put them in the old tin shell. Hope this helps.
