Rotella T 15w40
Hello all,
I am the proud owner of a 1985 c10 with 150000+ original miles on it. I recently switched from using 10w30 to using Rotella T 15w40 and saw an increase in my fuel mileage jump from 10 city and 13 highway to 14 city and 17 highway with no other adjustments made. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but with gas prices as high as they are and everyone trying to find a way to help the hurt, it might be worth a try. I did some research and Rotella T meets the API service specifications for our trucks. As a footnote, in my original 85 owners manual 15w40 is a recommended sae viscosity grade in the temperature range of +10 F to +100 F and beyond. Just thought I would pass my experience along for those who may be interested. Darryl |

Interesting, it should have gone the other way. Maybe the thicker oil is helping seal or keep oil from leaking and contaminating the combustion process as you drive? Rotella is a desiel oil, I sell so much of that stuff and just about nothing else to the desiel guys. Anyways thanks for the info!

as Tom said it should have decreased milage due to excessive drag on the oil pump. interesting find though, i'm sure is has something to do with the 150,000+ miles.

I thought it was strange too, I have owned the truck for 11 years now and this is the best gas mileage it has ever gotten. But as long as it runs good I guess I will continue to use it. I am a little fanatical about changing my oil, I religiously change it every 2 months or 2000 miles. I picked the habit up from my Dad years ago.
Anyway I hope the trend continues, and so does my wallet. |
