Motor mounts/location
Well for any of you fellas that've dealt with tall deck bbc's in these trucks... you know the woes you face. For those of you that dont you've got lots of already expensive parts made more difficult to access.
What i'm talking about is the fact that the valve covers/distributor with a TD are quite a pain in the rear on these trucks with this type of motor since there is hardly any room near the valve covers and you must remove the rotor cap to remove the dist and it's still a pain in the rear. I'm curious if anyone has relocated their engine mounts further up the frame rail or modified the towers etc etc to move a BBC further up towards the front. I checked clearances for the motor and pan and depending on how 'tricky' i wanna get i may be able to slide the motor forward ~1.5-3.25" forward and still clear my pan and balancer/pullies fine. Now that distance may not sound like much but it'd help quite a bit on this TD motor i think. Does anyone know if the frame rails stay straight enough to slide the towers forward? Also i'm figuring that trans linkage would have to be modded etc but this could help with the th400 to 700r4 swap to account for some differences in lengths etc.. Anyone got thoughts or experience? Thanks much
