converting from 1-1/4" to 1" rotors
I am considering changing the front brake rotors on my '77 to the later 1" thick ones in order to use the BelTech spindles I already have. Am I for doing this? Are the 1-1/4" brakes significantly better? Should I spend the $280 and get the right spindles? Anyone have a set they would trade?

I have 1 1/4" and can stop nicely, I can't really compare to the 1" rotors though. It is considered the heavy duty option for the breaks so somthings gotta be better. Possibly at dissipating heat.
Instead of spending $280 in spindles, you can spend $220 for DJM's 3" spindles. |

I converted to 1 1/4" rotors from 1" when I installed drop spindles. I noticed some difference, but not a huge amount. The worst part of the deal is the cost, you will have to replace rotors, inner and outer wheel bearings, and calipers. I also replaced the brake hoses and pads, because they were shot.

Why not sell your spindles and buy the correct ones for the 1 1/4's.
I can't see spending money to downgrade your brakes just to look cool.

I would personally keep the bigger rotors and buy the right spindles. Sell the other spindles, either here or on Ebay. You may lose a little money on the deal (maybe, but maybe not), but with a big block and the possibility of using it for towing...keep the bigger brakes.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to follow y'alls advice and stick with the 1-1/4" rotors.
