Bless you guys that have the tolerance and patience to do restorations. I am hoping that maybe in the next ten years I will have what it takes to rebuild my other grandfather's truck to original. He is the original owner and all that it needs is rockers and changed back to the original color. Oh, and him willing to sell it to me!! Say a prayer for me.

Thumbs up

OE dog dish hupcaps and steel rims. Where did that boy get such good taste?

For those that want the inside skinny, we're basically building a short step from the old parts stash.

Frame is 72 GMC 5 lug disk, with rear leafs. Thanks to Mikegi

Engine is mid-70's small block 350, with HEI, stock ramhorns, dual exhaust, with Edelbrock carb. Thanks to HotrodhenryJ

Tranny is 72 3 speed manual, column shift, and yes, the column shift will be maintained as it should be.

Rear end is 74 3:08 peg leg.

Cab is 67 small window A/C cab from AZ. Not sure if it'll stay with the a/c setup or retrofit the non-a/c box to the firewall. Thanks to HotrodhenryJ

Box is also a 67 from AZ. Thanks to DesertRat. Also VTBlazer for fenders and tailgate

Front clip is a hodgepodge of 3 different trucks and repro parts.

Seat is 67 buckets from a 67 GMC Camper Cruiser.

Front end has all new components as does rear. We're to te bodywork stage and since we've got rust-free parts to work with, it will be minimal.

Someday, it'll be back together and one color - Red or Orange TBD.

And by the way, he's only 14

Stock wheels and caps! I love that look!

I had to replace the split rims on my 68 so I went with stock solid wheels like you did but I painted them rally wheel silver. Three of the original caps were in need of a repaint but after I stripped them I think I'll just buff them really well with cutting rouge and not repaint them.

These are 16.5x8.25 wheels--I'm having 31x10.50 BFGTA's put on Saturday morning.

Here's pics...I've since put two more coats of argent and two coats of clear on the wheels.

We found a set of 4 hubcaps brand new at a swap meet for $40! We also have the 67/68 full wheel covers too, but these dog dish ones seem to look better on a "stocker" stepside

I agree--the dog dish caps look great on a stock truck. My split rims were black and the painted trim on the caps looked really good with that combo. I might try to pick up a set of nice painted ones if the price is right and keep them with my all original parts.

For daily driving I'm trying to make a 3/4-ton equivelant of a rally wheel by going with a full polish on the caps without the paint. In fact, I'm looking for a beauty rim to fit these 16.5 wheels just to see if it looks good with the polished caps--kind of paying homage to the corvette/camaro rally wheels on an 8-lug wheel. If anyone has one I'd like to buy it so I don't shell out 120 bucks for the only new set I can find before I decide. It might look like I went wild at the auto parts store instead of a true rally wheel look.

The wheels that hold those caps are getting harder to find though--and tires for 16.5 rims are getting scarce as well.
