3/4 ton help: Front disc brake swap on a 1968 C-20 8-lug?
Anybody know all the in's and outs of this conversion? I'd like a simple solution that doesn't cost me a couple house payments. New wheel cylinders for the 3/4 ton front drum setup are nearly 60 bucks a pop now days. I could rebuild the cylinders to save some money but then I'm still stuck with a brake setup that needs a lot of road to stop the boat or the horse trailer we haul...all the while I'm hoping the drums don't crack or need turned/replaced anytime soon.
I want to know for sure what year disc spindles/a-arms or combo will work for converting my 68 3/4 ton drum brakes to discs? I'm running 16.5x8.25 stock rims. I know I'll need a master cylinder from a disc-brake front/drum brake rear setup truck as well but can I use the same 68 booster? When were discs on a 3/4ton first available--69? or 71? Do those parts just bolt right up if I can find a parter or a few board members with those pieces? |

I'm going to part out my 72 with front disks. When you figure out what all parts you need, let me know. I had just replaced everything, new master, rotors etc right before a hail storm came in and beat the *&%^ of my truck.
Nik P.S. How far is Spokane from Deep River, Wa? |

Thanks Laplander!
I'll see what the other members say about what all parts I need and I'll pm you. Are the parts out of the truck? Deep River is on the other side of the state from me. It is about 150 miles south of Seattle on the west side of the state--near Portland, Oregon. Spokane is in the "far-east" of Washington State--near the Idaho state line. |

The parts are all still on the truck, in fact I drove it yesterday. Just give me a shout when you find out what all you need. The reason I asked about Deep River was because my folks just bought a place there and if it was close by I could have seen if he would haul them up there for you. It sounds like UPS would be better though.

Will any of the disc brake spindles on a 73-up 3/4-ton work on my '68?

This the Deep River in Wahkiakum County? If so thats practically next door to me. I also have an entire 8 lug disc front end for sale. It's off of a 78 crew cab. You could swap the front cross member just like the 1/2 ton guys. I'm also on the west side of the state, but let me know if you want anything.
