Convertible Burb project underway
Some wanted to see pics when I started this project, here it is with top recently cut off. Still have to smooth out the body lines and body work, then it will be painted with blue bedliner inside and out. A full roll cage is in the works. Currently it stands by proudly in its Krylon paint and topless . Soon it will be looking good and cruising the beach

Looks good, I have been kickin the idea of converting to 4x4. I think this burb has too much rust/vs work of swap in the long run. Think I am just gonna leave it 2wd and use it to learn off of for converting a 4x4 burb topless. Wife, kids, thier friends and myself hit the beach most every weekend, so this oughtta make a good fun little cruiser.
A burb sittin on 40''s just does it for me. |

I am also building a 70 blazer 4x4 with 69 3/4 rears and 7 inch lift..The top is staying off...I am getting ready to put the body back on this weekend...Allways fixing something..Erick If you take the foam insulation and spray it down in the body holes it will seal out the water from getting in there and will make it stronger. Just a tip!!

Thats basically what I did first, exept I also cut the roof out , leaving the cross braces. Went to the beach and it was OK, I like the complete topless feeling , Maybe that did not sound right . Anyways it looked like the photochop only no roof above the front and rear seats. After a few adult beverages when we got home out came the sawzall........
check out this link for pics of a cool burb done like the photochop http://lowrider.cardomain.com/id/ameza Last edited by slowpoke; 05-22-2005 at 11:25 AM. |

ok, I have a question - for those of you thinking of (or doing) making your sub a "convertible" (not a pickup - but a rag top) where are you buying the top from? I mean, I know they make tops for the blazers or branco's, but where would you get one for Subs?

i owuld think that you just make your own from the old top and make sure you have clean cuts.. or else find a wrecked burb with a clean top so you could maybe make some overlapping to prevent leaks (for those that may be worried about leaks)

I am going to go to a local shop that makes tops for offshore boats, once I finish building the roll cage that is. Mainly i want it for shade, South Texas sun can be HOT! My last offroad buggy,( With and external cage) I just used a Canvas tarp I bought at Acadamy and bungi cords.
