1980 2wd Blazer

I just got this blazer for $200. These are the pictures I took after I got it home. It didn't have any keys for locks or ignition. I was told the engine was blown up. Well I replaced the ignition and door locks with the locks from a parts car (79 nova). Got it running with the help of some starter fluid. It runs sort of. Rods are knocking. I have the engine from the nova to install. I'll send update pictuers as I go. B.B.

It's really in pretty good condition. The last inspection sticker had 11/98. When we rolled it off the roll back the rear brakes locked. The interior is in better condition than I hoped it would be. It's complete except for the radiator shroud. I found a hole in upper radiator hose. It looks like they got it hot and fried the sorry 305 engine. It's has a tilt column, nice console and the drivers bucket seat has a minor cut in it. I guess you could say I got my monies worth. The paint is pretty thin and oxidzed. I started rubbing on it and it looks a lot better. The pictures did'nt come out very well. I found a smug on my camera lens. I will take more pictures and post them soon. It's been too hot to work on lately. I have been waiting for it to cool off a little before I do the engine exchange. B.B.

I took better pictures this moring. They came out much better. I pulled the engine out of my GMC LWB yesterday it is the doner for my 72 2wd Blazer. I sill have to pull the 305 out of the 80 2wd Blazer. They I have to pull the 350 out of the 79 Nova to put in the 80 2wd Blazer. It's still been in the high 90's hear. It's hard to get motivated to go out to the garage and sweat until you feel like a wet dish towel. I have too many project all at one time. Not enough garage space.

It has two rust spots on the drivers side. One is above the tail pipe and the other is right behind the drivers door rocker panel. The one behind the drivers door is about the size of your fist the other half that size. The front clip is perfect. The doors close well and are rust free. The paint is gone on the roof and has a heavy layer of surface rust. Not sure what to do about it. By the way the second group of pictures were taken after I rubbed the paint out. It sure looks better. B.B.

Your blazer sounds alot like my 80 2wd. It was so covered with water stains and was oxidized so bad it was nearly white. It buffed out pretty good except for the hood. You got a better deal, I paid $600 for mine, but I have put 20,000 miles on mine and hardly touched it mechaniclly.

The roof on mine came white like the top (see pics). Your seems to be body color though. Mine had surface rust also and was naturally a ruff texture, so I scuffed it and painted it FLAT white. Looks original. If yours is rusty and looks bad you might keep that in mind.

BTY, did you get your rear window to work?

Looking at the very first picture makes me think his top is white like yours.
If the pictures you posted are pretty much how you bought it after much elbow grease then you both got pretty smokin' deals.
I used to not be much for brown or tan but lately I've seen a few that looked pretty sweet. Yours looks pretty good.

No I have'nt got back to the rear window yet. I have been working on my 72 2wd Blazer. The engine in the 72 was about dead when a friend pull it out of a field where it had sat for 8 years or so. I sold him a 71 2wd Jimmy and I got his 72 Blazer. (He got the better end of the deal) I was trying to scan some pictures so you could see what I started with but I can't get my scanner to work. It is in my garage now so I trying to get the motor back in that one frist. I like your 80 Blazer it looks like it cleaned up real nice. My roof was white but it is rust color now. I did start to shoot a little primer on it not finished with it yet. B.B.

Did you put dual exhaust on your Blazer, or did it come that way. It also has the bigger mirrors on it. Does it have a 305. Mine still has the factory 4000watt 4 speaker am fm radio and still works. It has front bumper guards ,tinted glass, ac, cc, auto, 31 gal tank, ps, inside hood lock, Silverado Equip, Foldind rear seat, power tailgate window, tilt wheel, ralley wheels. And a dead 305 2bbl engine. B.B.

It had duals when I got it, The PO must have added them. Both blazers are optioned alot alike. Mine lacks the bumper guards and cc but has power windows but oddly does not have power locks.

Did you know that 80 was the first you for Silverado on a blazer?

When I found it, it looked like crap, but I could tell it would clean up good. It was last registered in 1992 and had four flats and had grass growing up over the axles. The good news was that it only had 52,000 miles on it. I trailored it hame, put new tires on it, a new battery, fuel filter, changed the oil, flushed the radiator and it cranked right up and has been my daily driver for the last three years. 99% rust free and every thing works on it including cold AC.

Pretty cheap transportation.

I think you got a great deal on a good looking Blazer. I can't believe your ac still works. (Living in the pan handle of Texas the ac better work) It's been in the 90's all of July and August hear. That might not sound to bad to some people but the humidity has been unbelievably high this year. My compressor was laying in the back of the Blazer. My doner engine from my 79 Nova has all the ac parts still under the hood. I plan to get the ac to work after I get the motor in. How many miles do you have on your Blazer now. I want to lower mine 2" in front and 4" in the back, but other than that leave it stock. Do you have any plans for you Blazer. B.B. PS Hear are a couple of my other projects.

I never would have dreamed the AC would have worked after sitting for so long, but it does. I think it has around 70,000 miles on it now, so pretty close to 20,000 that I have added to it.

I found a 74 Jimmy(fully convertible) that has a nice top and a good windshield frame, so I am thinking about converting it to a full top conv. I like the interior of the 80 and all the extras, but the convertible would be cool. Other than that I would like to replace the massive 305 with a 400 small block. Should be a simple swap.
Your Chalet is cool. I would love to find one of those. I would make a good hunting rig.

It's a poor mans convertible but I love driving my 72 CST 4x4 with the top off. I have a freind who has a 92 Vett, and I get more attention in my Blazer than he gets in his Vett. So I going to keep my poor mans convertible. Well if you put the 400 in it I guess you will be looking for a new daliy driver. Plus I have double wall top on mine so it lives in the garage with the top off all year long. Thoses tops are heavy. I did build a rack to put the top on but it is still a lot of trouble to put on because you have to pull the back side panels off to bolt the top on. With gas prices the way they are you might want to keep the 305. There is a thread on here with pictures on how to convert to a full convertible top have you seen it? If not I have saved it to my favorites on my computer. I was already thinking about that so I saved it. I already have 2 but I can't help it. B.B.

Your probably right about the gas prices and the 305. I will probably hold up on the 400. My 305 is a good running little engine and will probably run forever if I take care of it. Plus I am not as big on hot dogging it as I was in my younger days.

I have seen and saved the thread on the conversion, and I am sure it will come in handy when I get around to doing it. I am looking for a 72 swb to restore so I will more than likely drive the blazer as for awhile.

Well finally got some work done on the 80 Blazer. Pull the motor yesterday. Now it is time to do a little cleaning up under the hood. (I still have to pull the engine out of the Nova, clean and paint it, then reinstall it in the Blazer) I had to pull the carpet up and pull the transmission cover off to get the last two bolts out of the transmission. It's not like my 72 2wd Blazer. The engine is mounted back on the firewall like a 4wd. On my 72 the engine is located in the foward position like a 2wd truck. But the 80 2wd is located in the rear position like a 4wd. I don't know why GM did that. Major pain in the @$$. I added some pictures of my 72 beater and 72 2wd Blazer. B.B

Bigblock...i didn't know you had a chalet....

I have a 79 2wd K5 in my backyard that i pulled out of a field in delta co.
Problem is the tub is rotted...and no title. I have a 74 with a rust free tub and a detailed frame...i was going to put the 74 body on the 79 frame...and change the dash structure out but i need a clean 2wd title and vin plate.
Wouldn't happen to know where there's a trashed 73 to 82 2wd i can buy for cheap with a title? With this new oilfield job i sometimes get a week off in between holes so traveling to drag it home is no problem.

Been living in my chalet on site at the drill rig's quite a bit lately...but she sure is handy.

I spoke to you after I bought it. It is #23 built 4/76. It's posted on your web page. I saw your pictuers of your Chalet in Moab. Looks like you had a great time there. My wife and I stopped in Moab on the way home from California after we picked up the Chalet in San Jose. We love Utah. It's heaven on earth for 4 wds. We have made 3 trips there in the last 4 years. I don't know of any 2 wd blazer right now but if I run across anything I will pm you. Here is a picture of the Chalet at the KOA out side of Moab. B.B.

I also love moab...i'll be there the first weekend in october for blazer bash...did i mention i live an hours drive away from moab? grand junction colorado....next time you are out this way call me so we can get a picture of two chalets together as it doesn't happen very often.
