What did you do to preparing your truck for your girl friend..
So your girlfriend/wife hasn't gotten a ride in your new old truck yet. You know its loud, smells, the interior is a little ratty, and maybe looks a little rough in general and you dont care... but will she?
what have you guys done to prep your baby for your significant others first ride? I for one will start by installing seatbelts. |

The then girlfriend/now wife loved, well loved is too strong, tolerated riding in the '68 before its resto. I think just because I liked it so much. It was far from what it is today, it smelt (the PO was a farmer) and it was just plain falling apart. All I did to prepare it for her was clean out the gas tank and replace the fuel filter so that it would run right.

I told her to look past the color. She didn't...one look at the screaming lime green paint and she refused to be seen in the thing

Well, the inside of the longhorn isn't too bad... it does kinda smell funny, the floors are ventilated, and it is loud. My girl says she don't care about any of that, and since it is my baby, she knows she'll love it. (plus since she bought me the caddy 500, she'll get to drive it too )
I'll see what I can do about the things I listed. I need to put some tunes in it too. It already has new buckets in there, and the door panels and dash pad and all that look nice. I know once she drives it, she'll see why I like it so much....she loves torque too. I have a month to get it road worthey and chick worthey. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 08-13-2005 at 07:16 PM. |

She hated it when I bought it, hates it when i spend money on it, Hates the fact that it takes up so much room in the garage, hates it when i spend time working on it, and not with her. No way i'll let her ride in it.

I guess I'm lucky. My wife doesn't give me too much trouble about mine. She's rode in everyone of them at one time or another. One factor may be that my little girl loves Daddy's BIG TRUCKS as she calls them. It's funny, I have a much harder time getting my daughter to ride in my 2000 Z71 than I do in my 67-72's. I say she has good taste in trucks!

Guys, LMAO when I starting reading this thread! I can remember when I moved back home to Mississippi from Virginia back in 1995, I had a '95 Impala SS and a '70 K5 Blazer. I had a on again/off again relationship that needed to be "defined" in my mind. (he he he) I had just begun the process of updating the interior, but it was functional. The outside was primer gray and sitting on 35"s. We went out in the Blazer and I found out how shallow she was.
Oh well, seven years later married my wife who knows that the '71 stepper is a topic that is off limits. She is quite patient considering that I now have a little over $30K tied up in it. Here's a pic of the 1995 options! (Which would you choose?)

My wife was open to the idea, but the 1st impression was hilarious. Her and I both knew it was going to be a "work in progress", but when I pulled up to her work and dragged her out to the parking lot to see this fine machine pissing a 5' stream of anti-freeze out a hole in the front of the rotten radiator (all over a shopping cart from her store), well I just had to laugh (all the way to Kragen)....

If she doesn't like the "old truck" smell, find another girlfriend.

I dunno about ya'll but the truck seems to get me hooked up with more chicks then anything else I do lol. all I get is I love this truck or wow this truck is crazy just as it backfires lmao. I dunno what chicks love about old trucks but I'm not complaining. I refuse to let a girl drive my truck anymore cause the last one nearly ran it into a light pole cause there is no power steering and it's hard to steer from the passanger side :P

I've had my current 72 for 2 years and she's only gotten in it to help me bleed the brakes. I don't think she'll ever ride in it before i sell it.
