Replaced Door Hinge Pins

I decided to change my drivers side door hinge pins since the door was beginning to sag a bit. I thought I could do it withought taking the door off but there was just no way. If you try to drive the top pin up it will hit the inside of the door. You have to unbolt the hinges, grind off the bottom of the swaged pin, and then you can drive the pin up. Repeat this motion for the bottom hinge. The real pain in the butt comes when realigning the door. Good luck to anyone else who tries this..............

did you change the bushings too? howd you press the new bushings in? maybe i got the wrong ones because the ones i got seem way to big? i figured itd be a little big so it would be a tight fit.

As you know by now, it's an easy job if you have two or three buddies on hand. If you do the other side by yourself, put a small piece of 2x4 on top of your floor jack and bring it up under the door. It will allow you to raise and lower your door with out killing yourself....

That is how I removed my doors...made it REAL easy for me to do by myself.

If you are changing out the whole hinge, how do you get to the bolt heads on the upper hinge? I plan on doing this with a jack and 2x4, but don;t know how to get to the bolt heads.......I have an 84 C10 silverado -w- A/C......

If I recall you have to go through the same process by removing the pins. I don't think you can get to the hinge bolts with the door in the way. It has been a while though....

Do you get to the top hinge bolt heads by going thru the dash/A/C vent? The tope hinge bolts I mean.... If so, how do you get the A/C vent out to get at the bolts? Anyone know bolt head size??

If you are wanting to remove the hinges, you need to remove them from the door not the frame. The frame part has a reverse bolt holding it on.

So, just work on the bolts holding the hinge to the door? Don't I have to get the other side of the hinge off of the cab frame,------?........ there is a side that bolts to the door---and there is a side of the hinge that bolts to the cab frame right?---(BTW, I bought all new hinges with the bushing and the pin installed already)........ I am wanting to install all new hinges with pins and bushings already in there......

AHHH, I thought you were just replacing the pins.
To completely remove the hinges, it will easiest on you if you remove the dash bezel, which will get you access to the A/C Vent. There will be a plug/hole on the inside door pillar that accesses the bolt you need to remove.

aligning door

I figured out a slick way to align the door. I was tired of tightening, loosening, adjusting. I decided I would only slightly tighten the hinges then shut the door. I was then able to move the door around a bit and get it perfect. I then carefully opened the door and tightened the hinge bolts. It worked great!

That's the same way on old body man taught me to do bolt on panels like doors, hoods, trunks, etc....
