Need ideas for eliminating tailgate chains
Hey guys, I need ideas to eliminate my fleetside tailgate chains (it's a 65, but surely someone with a narrow bed has some answers). I looked for a thread and couldn't find one. Show me what you have done (besides seatbelt latches). Thanks

A buddy of mine has a 65 and I told him about the idea of using a seatbelt assembly for the latch. Here are a couple of pics from his 65.

I have a complete set of the seatbelt latch ones with the male & female parts if anyone needs them. I went a different route.

Okay, okay....I'll give up my little secret. Here we go....
I ditched the chains I installed the hidden latches (plunger type) from one of the vendors (don't remember which one) I went to the junk yard and got a pair of Nissan Hardbody hangers. After some head scratching, I figured out where to mount them so they will not bind. I trimmed the lip off the tailgate to allow them to "tuck" into the void. Voilla!!!!! No chains. Here are some pics. Please excuse the lack of finish work. I am busy with a new cab!!!

Just remember, right where the hangers go, the tailgate is actually two layers of metal. After you trim the tailgate to allow the hangers to 'tuck' into the pocket, you will have to tack the two layers of metal together on the tailgate with the welder. Otherwise, they will seperate.
