The six cylinder unit has a smaller diameter connector. I purchased a V-8 sending unit for my sons V-8 68 Short Stepside. When it came in, it was too big. Had to purchase a reducer to make it work. I called the vendor and he said that the truck may have originally been a six, so he sent me the sending unit for a six cylinder and it fit perfectly.
