will a 70-72 5 bolt coil rear bolt into the 60-66 coil chassis?

if so,,,,,, anybody got a 5 bolt 3.08 rear for sale?

They're a little wider (.75 each side) but otherwise yes a bolt-in swap. The 67-69's 12-bolt are the same length.

A friend of mine swapped a 72 5-lug 12-bolt into his 66 & used 5-lug 15x8 truck ralleys w/o any problems.

Up through 64, the panhard bar is different. On these earlier rearends, the bar mounts to a big bracket on the right axle tube rather than the top of the pumpkin like the 65 and laters do.

If you swap a 65 and newer rear into a 60-64 truck, you have to also change the frame bracket for the panhard bar out with a later model one and use the later panhard bar too.

I just ran into this on my 64 Suburban.

Oh yeah . . .... the pre-65's have different pan-hard bar mounts & also use the 'drop-out' style rear end similar to a 9". I should have included that.
