What headers fit and work best?
I've got a '72 C20 with a 402 BB. It's currently right off the farm in original condition. I'd like to upgrade the exhaust, but I've heard sometimes "car" type headers fit better since they hug the body more, leaving more ground clearance. Is this true, or would I be better off going with truck headers?

On my 72 c-20 bb I used Hedman Elites - they have a 3/8"thick flange were they bolt to the head so they dont warp, most use 1/4" - thicker wall tubing and come coated - ball flange on the collectors so theres no gaskets to burn thru or flanges to warp - they are more spendy than most but well worth the money in my book. Unless you plan on slamming the truck they give plenty of clearance underneath. JMHO:::::::::::CB

Oh and they are the truck hedders - Ive heard of people using hedders made for chevelles but dont know any of the details.::CB

Yep that be them - you can get the off road model #69820 for less $ as it doesnt come with the hot air stove for the air cleaner or the exhaust crossover plate adapter. They also have the regular collectors that takes gaskets instead of the ball mount types. Sorry I cant post any pics at this time but took some measurements on mine and the bottom of the collector hangs 4 1/2" below the bottom of the frame and is 10 1/2" off the ground. Thats with the stock front susp. for a C20 and 31" tires. HTH::::CB

2nd part to this question!
I keep seeing references to "oval port" and "rectangle port" heads. HTH do I know what I have (w/o pulling the manifolds, of course)? Did our trucks have a standard?

You have oval port heads - the rect.port heads were never used on truck engines. Pull a valve cover and get the number off the head and you can find out which oval port head you have - there were many different versions used from the factory. HTH:::CB
