bent axle
Well i discovered that I have a bent rear axle shaft on my k-10. It's bent near the mounting flange, but for some reason I can't feel any wobble when I drive down the road, yet when I look at the wheel in the mirror, it's wobbling like crazy!!
Anyway, I want to know what parts will interchange with my axle. The truck has a 12 bolt rear with the skinny 2" drums. Will axles from any 12 bolt fit, or will the narrower drums need a shorter axle shaft? I 've thought about just swapping the whole rear end, but If I can just put in a new shaft that would be better. thanks for any help I know this isn't the 4x4 board, but since it's a rear axle question, I posted it here also. Jason

Since you have 6 lug axles you will want to get an axle out of a 71 up through 78 4x4 12 bolt rear end for a replacement. Some 70 4x4's have the longer axle that was in the 71 and later but you will want to measure as 70 was a change year.
If you buy a used axle, be sure to check the bearing surface for pitting or spalling. Also if you roll the axle on a flat surface you can tell whether it is bent or not. Jim |
