My cab stinks like gas when it is full upon checking just after fueling looks like it is leaking from around the sending unit is this an easy fix? Also If I dont fill it full will it not leak out there?
Thanks

Yeah it is easy just unscrew the ring should have a bout 4 or so tabs on it and unlock it.You probabally need a new o-ring there, wouldn't hurt to put a new sock on the sending unit at this time either.

Re: Royal Pine
Actually, I had the same problem at one time (before teardown). I used Royal Pine air freshener to "mask" the smell. Believe it or not, it worked.

Or just remove the sock, why put a filter in the tank and make it a PITA to replace?
not filling it up all the way is a good thing to do untill you can fix it. it is probably venting into the air in the cab and you just don't quite notice it yet. |

also after looking at it I see the locking ring. If I tap that out is it the only thing holding the sending unit in? Thanks

Yes, it has been a while since I've had to do it, but you tap on the tabs (I use a flathead screwdriver and hammer) and the ring should turn until it reaches a point where it will come out of the slots. I believe it tuns counterclockwise to come off.

No I do not smoke. Does anyone know if I dont fill it up all the way it will not leak out of that unit right? This is the first time I noticed it in 3 weeks but it was the first time I fill it really full. Want to make sure it did not just start. Also I dont think the fumes are that bad they would ignite I see people smoking at the gas pump all the time.
But anyway. And were can I get this o-ring from?

The complete repair can take as little as 5 minutes if you have the o-ring and can get your seat out of the way. Make sure the doors are open and the cab is well ventilated. Use a rubber mallet.

you can get one from Athey's (Bill is a vendor on this board), i'm not sure if autozone would have one or not, but it might be worth a try.

How can I get in touch with athey's or bill to get one? also do I have to remove the whole unit it is a new sending unit.
One other question I have a reciept were he got a new sending unit and tank but did not own the truck then could he have done it wrong or maybe reused the old o-ring? Cant believe It would leak already.
