Thumbs down Bad news tonight

Well you know that sick feeling you get when things are really bad? I have that, truck started to run bad on me, sounded like a ignition problem. Went through everything with no luck, just got worse. Well then I could hear a noisy lifter and thought maybe one of my polylocks came loose, so I pulled a valve cover. This is where my stomach sank , one of the connector link tabs on my roller lifters came loose, and the bar came off. Two lifters spun sideways and ate a lobe off my roller cam $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I took off the intake and yes cam is toast, can't even get the lifter out the top, it didn't even make a funny noise, just ate the cam like a bread stick. The whole engine has to be tore down and gone through, I could just die . Likely going to be over $1000.00 time I'm done. Well thank's for the shoulder, I have to go tell the kids that they are going on a strick diet.

OUCH! Any idea how or why this happened? I know the feeling. I once transplanted a new high performance 283 in my '59 panel. In a week it put a wrist pin into the cylinder wall and started smoking like mad. I had to pull it and rebuild it immediately. I was not happy...it was supposed to have been a good engine and it test drove great before I bought it.

Tab on the side of the lifter came loose.

I hate to here of your mis fortune! You might want to get your cam specs and have Chet Herbert grind you a new one! He is really resonable and does great work! I think his rollers start at 159.00! I had one of his cams in my camaro drag car and was very happy!

Nitrous Times:
5.785 1/8 @ 118.65 with a 1.336 60ft
9.168 1/4 @ 142.58 with a 250 shot dead out of the hole!

That sucks. It's sleeping time for it soon anyways right ? Now you can make it better and faster.

Well at least look at the bright side you didnt have to pick up the pieces and get towed home.

Yes allready planning a bigger cam, intake and a full race port and polish from the current street strip job and a set of H-beam rods to spin it to 7200RPM. This time S#@*'s going to fly when she let's loose.

Bummer. I lucked out and when I had engine troubles after fire up it luckily didn't damage the cam or any of the pistons. Good luck getting it back together.

I know the aww sh__ feeling. the first motor I tried doing things right on wound up being more of a PITA than the motor I cheated and took every shortcut known to man. I wound up pulling that motor apart 4 times, each time was a minimum of $400 in parts replaced. Finally solved the problem when I burned a hole in two pistons.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt to prove it! That happened to me two years ago the week before my vacation trout fishing in the Ozarks. That was the third time I had to rebuild my engine. First time, the machine shop that pressed my wrist pins in put spira locs on the ends of the pressed in wrist pins, result: broke connecting rod in three pieces at the crank had to replace block and crank and one rod and piston. Second time, wrist pin walked and scored the cylinder, had to sleeve it. Last was the lifter link bar broke and lifters rotated in bore and ate the cam (had to replace the complete set of lifters-$475 plus another $300+ for the cam). If I had been hot rodding it, I wouldn't have felt so bad. But this is my daily driver and it really hurt to have to go through all of this in about a year and a half. Makes you want to cry. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Sorry you're having my kind of luck. Hang in there, it has to get better. (Can't get much worse). Good luck and keep on truckin'................Jerry
