Convert '87 -1/2 ton to '87 -3/4 ton
So what do I do? Just add a couple springs in the back or is there a big difference between the two?
Front end stuff, brakes come to mind.

a lot of work
front axle is bigger rear axle is bigger it goes to 8 lug rims and the brakes are bigger on both axles u will have to change springs on the front and rear as the 3/4 tons are wider and more heavy duty, and you will have to get what they called a bastard joint for the rear u joint as the cross in the u joint is bigger on the 3/4 ton, you will also need the spring hangers from a 3/4 ton truck because they are offset different than the 1/2 tons

The u-joint that I used when I put the 14 bolt 3/4 ton axle under my Burb was P/N 21153 at Advance Auto Parts for $22.88. I used the 1/2 ton springs on the rear when I did the switch.

3/4 ton frames are bigger too (taller) although most of the parts are interchangeable. Usually when guys switch in 3/4 or one ton axles to a 1/2 ton, they keep the 1/2 mounts and related parts.
