Unbolting fe and cab to make a shortbed
Alright, I've been away for awhile because I bought an S-10 last year and the 67 has been sitting until I actually got around to sell her. Well, I was recently thumbing through a car magazine and got bit by the bug really bad. Now I'm once again thinking about converting her into a swb.
Here's my question: Supposing I start tearing her apart, can I lift the front end sheet metal off in one piece or do I have to take each panel off seperately? If so, how many bolts and where are they before I can lift the front clip off? How many bolts holding the cab? How long should I plan for taking the front end and cab off? Thanks in advance.

Two guys could have the front clip off in about 1/2 an hour if all the bolts cooperate and come out good.
Radiator support bolts can be a PITA sometimes. I'd invest in a good service manual. Always good to have one anyway. The factory assembly manual that's sold shows break downs of every part of our trucks, just gotta find the right picture cause there's no index. |

8 bolts for front clip, 4 for the cab. Won't take no time to get the cab off if you have something mechanical to lift if with. If you and some buddies are going to lift it then it depends on how big your buddies are and how much you want to take out of the cab. Doors and the bench seat are heavy.

It's a little more complicated than that. The front clip removal requires radiator hose and trans cooler line to be disconnected. The left fender well brace has to be removed. Wiring disconnected, battery removed
The cab requires fuel line disconnect, trans linkage, brake lines, park brake cable, speedo cable, steering column shaft, and rear light wiring, plus the 4 bolts. Two of the bolts require carpet removal, which requires sill plate removal.

Thanks guys and thanks for thinking of me Andy! I feel right at home here and have checked in a few times undercover in the last year or so. I dunno what I'm gonna do. Long story short, I really don't know what to keep or sell- the 91 or the 67. The nice thing about the 67 is that I can go anywhere and parts and service will be alot cheaper if I can't do it myself! That alone is worth keeping it for!
I just may start tearing into it later this week. Who knows.
