Installing 700r4 problems?

Ok guys I'm having a new 350 engine build so I'm going to have a 700r4 installed at the same time. What will I need to change or what problems will I run in to? They will be going into a 71 swb GMC.

Re: Installing 700r4 problems?

You can also look at Bowtie overdrives----netting it out, you may have driveshaft length issues to handle (long tail-short tail,LWB or SWB), trans crossmember mounting issues, and a critical one is the setup of the throttle linkage setup. You will also have lock up torque converter decisions to make ie. do you want lockup in 4th only or ?? Vacuum controlled? Finally you will probably want to convert you steering column shift indicator to a PRND321.
Don't be discouraged as these are all fairly easy to overcome and the end result will be a lower first gear and a wonderful overdrive for better mpg. I've got two in the barn waiting for installation--went I can get to it. If the 700R4 is pre88, you probably need to have it updated as the early ones were a problem. Any good trans shop can do the upgrades fairly easy--valve body, etc. Good luck and let us know how it comes out~~~Huck
