1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
HI, I AM NEW TO THE FORUM, AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAS SEEN OR HAVE A GMC INDY PACE TRUCK. THEY WERE CALLED INDY HAULERS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY WERE MADE. I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUY ONE. THANKS JASON.. P.S. THEY WERE MADE A FEW DIFFERENT YEARS, BUT THE 1980 GMC IS THE ONE IN QUESTION. THEY HAVE SPECIAL DECALS, AND OTHER ACCENTS TO MAKE THEM STAND OUT. I ALSO HAVE A 1977 CHEVY SPORT 4X4 FLEETSIDE. IT HAS FACTORY ROLL BAR AND SOME FUNKY STRIPES DOWN THE SIDE. ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL. I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO SOMEONE WITH SOME PRODUCTION NUMBER INFO OR VALUE OF THESE TRUCKS. THANKS AGAIN

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
Welcome to the board. I have some info on my site...
http://www.73-87.com/Special_Edition...l_Editions.htm Joe (ElGracho) has quite a bit more on his website... http://www.gmcspecialeditions.com/ I think the only year they were offered for sale to the public was 1980...I could be wrong however.

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
That's Kind Of What I Thought. There Does Not Seem To Be A Lot Of Information Out There On These. I Have Seen Some Brochures And Some Pictures On The Web, But No Info On Production Numbers Or The Value Of Them. Thanks Jason

I almost bought a 1977 Short Stepside Indy 500 Special Edition with a factory 454 in December of 2002, I saw the pictures from Ebay, but I never touched the truck. Besides the shortbed, they made some Dually replicas too in at least 1980...

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
Its Funny That More People Have Not Posted Or Said Tht They Have One, With All The Trucks Out There, They Must Be Pretty Few And Far Between. I Have Searched Quite A Few Leads And Have Not Come Up With Very Many Pictures Or People That Own One.. I Know That The Door Panels Have Speakers Built Into Them, And I Am Wondering Which Engine Combo's Were Offered.. Where Would One Call To Get More Info?

Great webpages Jeff
What about the 1993 Indy Pace Trucks they had to compliment the Z28 pace cars They were regular cab long bed pickups |

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
i have never seen a stepside model, the 1980 fleetside has the old bird on the hood, wording on the door, and gmc indy hauler on box sides. someone said they only made 2000 of these. i have one spotted that needs restoration. any ideas on value of these? it needs full restoration, but is complete. it does nun and drive... jason

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
Try GM.com for info. My buddy up here has a 1980 fleet, needs resto too but he is not selling it. He bought it a few years back in Texas. It is the one with the bird on the hood.
Unfortuntely he doesn't have those nice wheels though or I would have bought them for my Blazer. Thanks, Doug |

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
In 1980, our business bought 2 C2500 vans that were called "Crew Vans" that had the same grey and white paint job as the Indy Hauler. We also had a pair of C2500 crew cab trucks, but they were red and white. They had either Michigan Raceway or Michigan Speedway on ours. These were the only 4 that I had ever seen. I live in a small town in South LA and there is actually a 1/2-ton short wheelbase in grey and white here locally. These are the only 5 that I ever seen in person. The vans had 350's and the trucks had 454's. Somewhere I have a picture of the one of the trucks. As soon as I can find it, I will post it, too.

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
Welcome IndyHauler, and welcome also, highway182, good to see a fellow BooyBoy here
I think those special eds. are great. I've never seen a special edition around these parts of LA, they must all be hiding down in Morgan City :P

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
I have one, bought is about 5 years ago. Doesn't have all the decals and stuff, but dealer invoice from GM says it's genuine. It's black and white, instead of the charcoal color and has been modified some.
My research indicates that only 200 of the 1980's were made available to the public. Mine came from Rountree Motors in Petersburg, Va. That is what the dealer invoice says too. |

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
I lived in Vancouver B.C. in '85-'86 and saw a white '80 Indy Hauler on a used car lot for sale. I think they were asking $6000.00Cdn. It looked like it was rode hard. I should've bought it, but I didn't. Didn't know much about them back then. Just looked like a neat looking shortbox with the T/A bird on the hood and all of the other decals.
You guys that own one should post a pic of your truck. |

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
I can't get them to post other than my profile of the bird on the hood. It's actually in decent shape a little rust in rear quarters

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
I know this is an old post, but I'd sure like to see what these trucks look like, 35 yrs later. How weathered they are, rusty, etc. I'm sick like that...lol!!!
Chiefheisman...I use photobucket for my pic folders, then copy and paste to here. I'd sure like to see your truck, if you can show it off, that would be awesome!!. Thanks, Greg |

Re: 1980 Gmc Indy Hauler
I have recently found a 1980 Indy Hauler Stepside. Can't seem to find any info as to how rare the step sides are. Also noticed all the screaming chickens on the T/As face towards the driver but on the trucks they face the passenger. Weird. Anyway if my deal goes through and I get the hauler I will post some pics and start a build thread.
