I think it is because the column linkage has a a couple of parts that switch the pattern around and the floor shift is straight to the trans? It makes sense to me, but I'll be damned if I can explain it! With all of the linkages from the column that is how it was designed so the pattern is more straight forward, but by putting a shifter on the trans you do not get the transfer (it is right off the tranny no transversing from the linkage) I'm gonna shut up and see if someone can explain it better. |

Re: finally got her back together
A 3 speed uses this pattern....whether column or floor shifted.
R 2 1 3

Re: finally got her back together
You've got the linkages on wrong then.
The pattern is the same, whether on the column or floor. On a floor shifted 3 speed.... There are two levers on the shifter and two on the trans. The outside lever on the shifter goes to the front trans lever. That's the 2-3 selector. The inside lever on the shifter goes to the rear lever on the trans. That's the 1-R lever. Both trans levers should be on top, that is, pointing toward the sky, not pointing towards the ground.

Re: finally got her back together
thats what i did i got the 2 levers facing down and the rods off. will it hurt the trasmission if i leave it this way? i mean it goes into every gear fine i sort of like it this way so if someone steals it i can get to them before they figure it out

Re: finally got her back together
If you like it, I love it.
Set it up whatever way makes you happy. As long as it shifts smoothly without bnding or grinding, no harm will be done.
