Shift Shaft Seals

I need the "Shift Shaft Seals" on the transfer case, both of them. My mechanic is having a hard time getting them. Are these a "specialty item"? Do they not make them anymore?? Where the heck can I find them???

Thanks for any info!!

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

I checked NAPA Online and they list a few depending on what transfer case you have.

NP205 item# NOS 7443 $4.49
Dana/Spicer NOS 6229 $5.99
Rockwell NOS 7440 $4.49

They are available at the stores only, not online.

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

The NAPA in Valdosta didnt have them, so, If I have them order part # NP205 they will send BOTH seals?? for $4.99??

Wouldnt think it would be so hard to get a friggen seal. Guy at the tranny shop said he had them, but cant find them, then wont call my mechanic back, then wont give him a straight answer about their whereabouts. Sounds like he REALLY wants business......

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

That is probably just 1 seal per part number.

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

I'm sure it is the NP205, but look at the rear of the transfer case in the middle and see if you see a small round cover with three bolts. That is a NP205 if I'm remembering correctly.

I get my NP205 rebuild kits out of Vegas if you can't find any local. Let me know.

Yep, it will be the NP205, but here is a pic so you can be sure.

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

I check out O'Reily's on line and they stock what you need.

NAT Shift Shaft Seal, 2 per car, part no. 2287, $4.29 each.

If you can't find them locally, let me know and I will go get these and mail them to you. Does your mechanic need any other seals or gaskets - or is this all he is missing?

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

These are the seals that go where the transfer case shift rails enter the transfer case. When you switch ranges, these rails move in and out of the transfer case and these seals keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out.

Re: Shift Shaft Seals

FYI...4xheaven in NY has gasket and seal kits for the 205 for 31.99. And that includes the adapter seals too so they have to know what transmission you have.

I ordered a kit and had it at my doorstep the next day..!
