anyone use the old air products dual electric fan setup? Is it really a direct bolt on? and how do you like it?

Re: Old air fans
I've never used it, but I've found that the LS1/LT1 dual fan setup is a direct bolt-on for my radiator. I think mine specifically is out of a 94-96 LT1 maybe? It's the one that allows you to actually replace a single fan easily should the thing go bad. I picked up my fan setup from FBodyChopShop for under $100 shipped. Tony was a true pleasure to deal with ( www.fbodychopshop.com )

Re: Old air fans
It's EXPENSIVE.
We are all cheep (I speak for myself) Seeing that a 16" fan can be had for under $100 and cool's fine with some custom brackets.

Re: Old air fans
Well I want a clean stock looking install and I like the fact it has duals fans and the way they run one always on, one with thermo switch. I dont want to say money does not matter but I really like the looks and ease of install other than the cost you guys think it would work ok. I value your opinion.

Re: Old air fans
I have one of the Old Air setups on my 72 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4. It is a very nice unit and works like it's supposed to, BUT -- It is not keeping my 454 cool even in 35-40 degree temperatures. Summer/Winter it keeps my engine at about 200-210 degrees. That's with a 180 degree thermostat and NEW radiator. I am not blaming the unit, there could be another problem. Two other issues to consider are the noise it makes (I don't have all the sealing foam in -- could make a difference), and the amp draw. I have a 100 amp alternator and it takes all of the alternator to run the fans/heater/headlights/wipers. This is Oregon after all. If you have any questions, maybe I can answer them.

Re: Old air fans
What kind of noise does it make? Have you ever checked to see how many amps it draws with both fans going?

Re: Old air fans
I asked their tech support about amp draw and they claimed 57 amps.
It sounds like a big blower while sitting at a stoplight. Sometimes I get looks like there is a turbine under the hood. I originally had their foam gaskets installed, but the fans sucked them in and thru the blades. I am now looking for tougher foam. The fact that there's a 1-2 inch gap around the shroud may be causing my overheat problem, but I really think there's an engine issue causing it, since it happens in all weather.

Re: Old air fans
I have the Old Air fan set up. It is a bolt in and keeps my bb truck cool even on the hottest nc days.

Re: Old air fans
I think I have a 80 amp alternator best I remember. They don't run all the time just when temp gets above 180 d. Don't know about the noise I can't hear them above the pete jackson gear drive and hardly no mufflers.
I would buy them again.

Re: Old air fans
does one run all the time and the second one comes on when temp is reached? Or do both switch off and on together? Also were did you get that nice plate covering top of radiator?
