Re: headlight help

If your lights are extra bright, it is may be your voltage reg. If it was a short your lights would go out and then come back on as there is a circuit breaker built into the light switch. Here is a way to check to see if it is your light switch:
1--unhook the dimmer
2--remove BLUE wire
3--install a wire in place of the blue long enough to reach the fuse panel
4--attach to fuse panel on a fused circuit that is hot only when ing switch is on
5--drive it this way as lights will be on all the time (you can still use your dimmer to check both low and high beams
6--If nothing blows it should be in your light switch
7--If it blows a fuse trouble is from dimmer out to your lights or your voltage reg.
7--NOTICE- above infomation carries no warrenty.

Re: headlight help

I had this same problem, it was the voltage regulator. I replaced the headlights and about 4 times and the voltage regulator 5 times in a year. I installed an internally regulated voltage regulator and headlight relays and no more headlight problems.

Re: headlight help

what i ahve noticed is at times the lights are really bright and at others the are dim but what getts me is that when i had my bat. tested at work work and it said surface charge decected please turn head lights on and before you can turn them on it says head lights on detected then please turn head lights off and they are off which means i got an drain somewhere but when i checked everything is off in the cap not pulling power? will an bad volt reg cause an bat drain also?

Re: headlight help

A bad regulator could cause a draw. I have had bad internallly regulated alts draw before.

Re: headlight help

Idling to slow. When they are doing this slowing increase rpm to see when they stop flicking. Check grounds--battery to motor--motor to frame-body to motor.
