12 bolt truck pinion berrings
I was told that If you went with a after market gear like a 488 or 513 there was a special pinion berring you are suppose to use. Has any else heard anything about this and if so what do you use and does it change the way you shim the pinion. Thanks

Re: 12 bolt truck pinion berrings
I have never heard of anything like that. I have changed hundreds of gears and replaced the bearings on a good percentage of them. I really don't see what could be different about the bearings, or why the ratio would matter.
The only caution I would give is to use a synthetic gear oil and be careful about the break-in of the gear-set. |

As for oil I know a lot of people use synthetic but I would only use it if the gear maker and the posi maker recommend it. Otherwise you may void the warranty. I know Eaton posi specifically says no to synthetics. |
