Free Trans/Bell Housing/Clutch/Cross Member

If anyone needs a 3spd Sag. w/bell housing, pressure plate/clutch and the trans cross member, come and get it. The trans/clutch where working perfect when I took them out of my 70 GMC 2wd truck. I swapped for an auto trans, so, I don't need these items. No linkage or shifter arms with it.

At the moment, it's behind my garage being protected by SNOW....lol

Pressure plate, clutch and cross member are inside......

Sorry, No shipping.......

Was it an original in-line 6 truck or V/8? The crossmembers are different. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

350ci........I did not know that the trans cross member was different from a I6 or V8. I thought you just moved the member back or forth to what ever position you needed.....

Re: Free Trans/Bell Housing/Clutch/Cross Member

Not on the standard trucks. The crossmember sets in the curve of the frame and will only go in the one spot. That is why they are different. There is actually 3 different standard transmission crossmembers, maybe 4. 1 for in-line 6, 1 for small block V-8, 1 for Big Block V-8, and maybe the GMC V-6. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Free Trans/Bell Housing/Clutch/Cross Member

Steve: I wish I was headed that way, would love to stop by and hang out for a while and bring some of your castaways home. I didn't forget your grill bar, just trying to move it up the list a little. Keep reminding me, it's COLD outside!

WES: I would be interested in some more info (pics) on these X-members because I am swapping one from a 6 into my BB truck, and they all SEEM the same to me. I have noticed some are cut out and some aren't. What is the MAJOR difference?

Re: Free Trans/Bell Housing/Clutch/Cross Member

Mike, we'll hook up one of these days, and thanks for keeping me in mine on that bar. I would think that if you're putting in a BBC with either an auto or a newer muncie 4spd trans, wouldn't you be using a auto X-member? I always thought they were the same? They are with the cars.

On the original X-member I have, I too would like to see the difference between the I6, V6 & V8......The X-member that I have mounts close to the bell house. Didn't all of those 3spd trans bolt up the same? I looked at my frame, and did see different mounting holes. I would think that is for either a I6 mounting or V6, V8 mounting, but the X-member would be the same for all. What about the original 4spd X-member? Is that also different?

I'm still learning as fast as I can.......lol

Re: Free Trans/Bell Housing/Clutch/Cross Member

I don't have pictures of all of the different crossmembers. I guess that I never bothered taking any while I was either parting or converting the trucks. The best way to explain it is, it may look like you could slide the crossmember forward 2", but you can't. Knock one loose and try. You can't even knock it out of the frame without dissasembling the "Y" sections. At least without damaging the frame or the crossmember. They only fit in one location, because of the shape of the frame at the exact possition it is setting in. The shap of the frame 2" forward of the location it is in is a lot different that where it is now. You will play heck moving the crossmember even 1/4" let alone the 2" needed. If you did manage to beat it forward the angle that it sets at would be completely wrong and you wouldn't be able to align the mounts to the bell housing. (Been there, done that, and have several T-shirts for it. LOL) The other part that is different is the clutch bell crank bracket on top of the frame. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
