In Tank Fuel Pump Question
I found a guy selling this tank for $200 so I picked it up from him. He had it in a late 90's chevy truck and it has a pump in the tank. I also have a new 383 that doesnt have a mechanical fuel pump. I was going to buy an electric pump but was thinking that now I can just use the one in the tank and put a regulator on at the carb. Does this sound like it will work or should I not hook up the in tank pump and just buy an electric?

Just drill some injector bungs on that intake and you should be good to go.
You can probably use that pump with a regulator. Does the setup have a return line? if so I would use a regulator with a return port.

need to know if it is a fuel injector pump or a carb pump. since you said late 90's, lets assume FI. that being the assumption, you will definately need a regulator and a return line. or, like the others said, Inject your engine and no worries!

I am also assuming it is a fuel injection pump. Here is a top view. I imagine one of these hoses is a return. Not sure about the other two. I think the guy had it running to another tank in the truck.

Best thing to do would be to check how much pressure the pump is developing.
If it is a pump for a TBI motor thr pressure will be much less (approx 6lbs I think) than if it is for a TPI motor. From the looks of the fittings I'm thinking TPI. Also the pump may be no good which would make your decision for you and I agree with the others go with the FI |

The pump does work cause there was gas in the tank and he hooked a wire to his battery and drained it into another tank so we could lift it. I already have the rest of the parts for the engine so no FI. What would be the best way to check the pressure?

Get a fuel pressure gauge and connect to the "out" line on the pump. You can buy a cheapo unit and use it just for the test or buy a quality piece and install it permanently. There are tons of them for sale on Ebay or any auto parts store will have one

Transfer flow tanks are used to pump fuel from it to the OEM tank. You will have to check local laws about using it as a main tank as it was not designed for that purpose. Just don't want you to get stuck if you go through state inspections.

I have never heard of a transfer flow tank before. Are there any safety concerns I should be aware of? What agency would I check with about this. I am swaping tanks cause the nearest track wont let you run if the tank is in cab. Do you think they would have a problem with this type of tank?

I don't know if they would have a problem with it at the drag strip. You could check with the company about issues running the tank. http://www.transferflow.com/ They could help you more.
