playin with dashes..
A little more progress this week.
The truck came with a 3 hole dash that was great because I had to wire the whole truck, and to get everything working right it did the job. Then I switched over the cluster wiring from gmcpaul's web site to make way for the 7 hole dash. At first I tried a am tach witch I had mounted on the lower dash. Installed it is in the pic of the dash with the wood bezel, and by itself. I went with the wood bezel becaue the 1980 camaro colum is to wide at the bottom. This was a whole other work order. If I get to the show level or if some rich guy from TV would sponsor my truck then I'll probally go with a custom billet dash with the comp gauges. But for now I like to get every factory piece I can. So I ordered a factory tach because I had the thing in and out so many times I should make a quick release harness.(shhhh) I have it all together now. It is the pic of the wood cluster not in the truck. I finally have it ready to goin this morning. I'll get a pic when it is in....

Here Is Mine
This will go all the way across the front of the cab. It will replace the stock dash and glove compartment. I laid out the design on paper and then traced it into my buddy’s computer plasma cutter. The material is 3/16" aluminum. After I get all the gauges in place and fit up is complete I am going to disassemble and have the aluminum "brushed", anodized red and then powder coated with a clear coating. This whole assembly when done will end up costing me about $1800.00… but I feel it is worth it to have a one of a kind dash. If I would have had to pay for the aluminum and the fab cost to lay it out and cut it I would have to add another $200.00 bucks to the cost. The gauges are all AutoMeter Pro-Comp Super Light gauges.

Re: playn with dashes..
My buddy just got a call from John Covan of Covan's Classics last week. They want to use his Nova for a prototype for the 75-79 series. I like it.

Re: playn with dashes..
No the gap will be gone once I finish the wiring. The steering column is not bolted in all of the way. I had the Dakota digital gauges in before and took them out as they were voltage sensitive. I unbolted the column as it mad this proccess easier. I can asure you that ugly gap will be gone soon.

Re: playn with dashes..
Three years ago I was messing around with a stock 1971 Monte Carlo cluster. The speedo is a direct bolt in.
So if you spend a lot of time in the 100 - 120 mph range, and you want the stock look, this may be your answer. (Just buff off the truck's stock mph numbers).
