Help - another transmission leak
Okay, I have been trying to clean up the underside for a little while now. I finally figured out where the transmission was leaking from. It leaks from around the dip stick. I got a brand new dip stick w/ new o-ring and installed it. It still leaks there.
So, I need to figure out where to get the grommet that is actually in the transmission housing where the dip stick goes in. Anybody know where I can get a new one..preferably online, since it's 45 miles to the nearest part store. Thanks for any help.

Re: Help - another transmission leak
I just replaced my dip stick seal (the one in the tranny). Their are 2 types, the old style (mine) is just an "O" ring. The new style is a rubber grommet. This fixed that leak however, I soon found that the shifter shaft is leaking also.

Got it at the parts store for $1.00. I bought both types as I wasn't sure which seal I had. I still have the grommet seal on the shelf. If this is the type you need let me know and I'll send it to you. Ron (retired MSGT)

Re: Help - another transmission leak
Longhorn Man, it is 35 miles to get to I-15 and then it's another 10 miles to get to the AutoZone and Kragen. I try to only go when I need several things...that's also where the closest Wal-mart (not even a Super Wal-Mart). Gas just cost too much. Believe me, I use the internet for almost everything out here.

Re: Help - another transmission leak
I remember Ft Irwin road being long...but didn't remember it being that long.
I guess there isn't much on post for that kind of stuff either huh. Man, that's a 1/2 tank of gas just to get to the parts store. |

Re: Help - another transmission leak
Fort Irwin road is long and in disrepair...the State of California should be ashamed. Five people have died on that road just since October.

Re: Help - another transmission leak
Do you have an aftermarket chrome dipstick and tube?
I've never been able to keep them from leaking. Swapping in a GM factory dipstick and tube always fixes the problem.
