Re: will it work?
I really do not think so. If I remember correctly, the ps box for the van is a muck bigger unit, and will not fit. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Re: will it work?
Most of the boxes are the same. Differences in mounting and hose ends.
It should fit. It's a Saginaw box, after all. Be sure to match the hoses though. Some were a flare, others o-ring. Also, shouldn't need to swap the column, as they both use a rag joint to connect to the box itself. Last edited by FormerMember; 01-15-2006 at 08:34 PM. |

the only reason i'm getting it so cheap is that the van was rear end andi know the guy selling it i helped him install the motor in it. he only put about 5k on it before he was rearended he took the money they came him and got another van and tolded me i could have it for250 buxs runs and drives

Re: will it work?
the column will have the ignition switch. They have been installed on the trucks, but it is a lot of work making the opening under the dash bigger, figuring out the wires for the ignition switch and the wiper controls.
I think a van has the steering gear box inside the frame rails... if so, it won't work. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 01-15-2006 at 10:39 PM. |

Re: will it work?
As for the tranny in your buddy's truck, the 83 may have a lock up converter in it. If it does, you'll need to either wire it up to use it, or get rid of it. Running a lock up converter with out the lock up feature will cause LOTS of extra heat and slowly kill the tranny.
Also, the van will probably have a long shaft tranny where the truck would have a short shaft if original...drive shaft mods will be needed. Just a heads up. |

Re: will it work?
Last van I ripped apart had the box on the outside of the frame rails.
Was an 85. |

Re: will it work?
OK, cool. An 83 would be the same.

Re: will it work?
Any chance those van engine mounts would fit a 454 to go into my 72? (I'm only 3/4 of a state away from Truckdude)
