hood hinges ?

i have one hinge that you have to push down on the corner of the hood for it to close all the way. ? is can they be fixed or do you just replace.

If oiling the pivots doesn't solve the problem, try adjusting the way the hinge is attached to the fender. It's held on there with three bolts; two in the back and one in the front. First try loosening the two back bolts and lift up on the hood so that the hinge lowers in the back, and retighten the bolts. If this doesn't solve the problem, loosen the top rear bolt and the front bolt, lift up on the hood again and retighten the bolts. By rotating the hinge back, the hinge has to fold farther when you close the hood, which causes the hood to be lower when closed. I have had this same problem on all three trucks I've owned. Making this adjustment fixed it on two of the trucks. The hinges on the third one were just too worn out.

if there too worn out can you just get replacement springs or do you need the whole hinge?

Just a spring swap might do the trick, but once in a while it still won't close all the way. Look for slop in the pivit points before deciding which to buy.
Also, some light oil on the pivit points goes a long way too.

Also pay real close attention to where the hinges bolt up on the hood. I had this problem for a couple years and was pullin my hair out tryin to fix it. One day while I was changin my blower motor I noticed the metal where the nut was welded on the inside of the hood was sheared about a little over an inch. Well one thing led to another and I ended up with a new hood.

aye, look out for them hinges. Reminds me of an experience with my 69 a few weeks ago... the rivet where the hinge swivels in the middle broke, so I rigged it up with a bolt and a nut. Well that didn't work the best, I guess, cause later sittin in McGreasers while my friend grabbed a burger, I went under the hood to play with my choke. Well as I went to shut it, SNAP! hood hinge breaks. Well, a "few" cuss words later, I drop him off, shut er down for the night. A few days later, I was taking her out for a test drive, and I was doing like 40, 45, down a road, when all of a sudden, WHAM!!! UP COMES MY HOOD! Talk about one hellride, can't see where I'm going, hood flies up on me, I swore I needed some new underware, I'm floorin that clutch and that brake, my friends ridin with me are about having as much of a ball as I am, my friend driving behind me just about craps his pants seeing this big red thing fly up infront of our heads in the truck, I'm slammin her down and get on a sidestreet. Wooh, talk about a fun time. That's when I said to hell with it, and just took her home and called her a day with that truck.

Good news is, my very good buddy 68350, let me have a hood hinge. To make that process even easier, I had a 2x6 that was the PERFECT length to prop the hood up on. So all's good now, except that I need to change my oil (fuel like hell in it) and possibly redo my valve cover gaskets. Otherwise, she'll be lookin good. Can't wait (then I can show off my new chrome)

P.S. Oh yeah, if you learn anything about this post... oil... and if that rivet or something breaks, don't do what I did and just jury-rig that thing with a bolt, get a new one, haha

If you end up needing new hinges I would strongly suggest investing in GM brand hinges and they are still available from any Chevy dealer.

GM hinges also available form Chevy Duty. My local GM dealer wanted over $75 each. Chevy Duty is in the mid-$50's. And have all the "GM Parts" decals, tags, etc....
