77 Stepper update! Pic!
Hey guys!
Finally got the step bed installed onto my stepper today -- Looks and rides far better now! Shes got a good HO 350 in her from a mid 80s 1 ton truck. Has a Q-Jet in need of choke work (been a while since I've fiddled with a carb, spoiled by EFI, lol) but otherwise runs great! TH350 tranny at the moment (coming out tommorow night to be replaced with a 700r4) and a higher ratio rear end. Not sure what exactly, but she revs like crazy on the highway. I'd guess 3.73 - 4.10. PO told me that his PO had a gear change done to give it a bit more guts off the line. Open diff though Body is the only thing bad on this truck. The interior is gorgeous, and mechanically speaking, it is awesome! Plans at the moment are to use it as a winter truck for now, then come this spring I'll do the sheet metal work it needs (cab corners, rockers, and floor supports) and give it a quick shot of paint. Should be able to sell it for a fair amount here, step side trucks are very uncommon, I only know of one other in the area.

Re: 77 Stepper update! Pic!
She's lookin' great man! Hope ya get her all finished up and ya keep it or if not get it to a good home. In response to the rarity question I too notice not only stepsides, but fleetsides as well, are not so common anymore. Maybe in a scrapyard with badly rusted bodies you'd see a few but that's it. The old road salt and canadian winters are tough on any car or truck unfortunately especially if not undercoated. Although it is dreadful dirty stuff and makes working on them terrible,it might be a necessity to keep them alive here.

Re: 77 Stepper update! Pic!
I'll get some more pics after I swap the 700r4 in tommorow
Also need to work on the choke a bit, shes having issues getting started after I "fixed" it It was puffing black smoke and idling really bad when I first fired her up before, then once the hot air choke started to kick in after 30 seconds or go, she'd suddenly stop puffing black, and idle way up like its suppost to. Now the choke just goes wide open, and the high idle doesn't work. Oh well, figure it out tommorow, lol

Re: 77 Stepper update! Pic!
Chris, funny you should say that!
That snow is no longer there! We're in the middle of what is called a winter Chinook -- Basically warm winds from the mountains rush in, and have a massive "drying" effect. All the snow melts, and due to the warm temps, water very quickly evaporates, and is carried off to be dumped in Ontario or something, lol! There is no snow here at all right now, and its like 50F outside, normally its more like -20F right about now, LOL

Re: 77 Stepper update! Pic!
Same deal here in NH. No snow left, was very warm for a week or two, 40 to 50 degrees each day. Back to 30°F here today, getting cold again... I almost like it better when it's cold because the ground is hard and I don't get as dirty or muddy in my gravel driveway .
