73 frt.&rear diff. into 68 frame?

Has anyone put the frt. & rear differentials from a 73 & up 3/4ton into 68 3/4 ton frame? I have a chance to buy a 73 today for 200.00 with a bad body & weak engine.A friend told me the frt. will bolt right in & the spring perches & shock mounts will have to be cut & moved in on the rear.If the T-case is good in the 73 I may use it. Any input on this? Thanx, Philip

The front should bolt right in. From what I've heard the 3/4 rear might also. I did the swap on a 1/2 ton and the rear mounts needed to be relocated. Measure center to center on the spring pads of both rear ends that will tell you.

You`ll have to do as your friend described. The later trucks had the staggered(fore & aft) rear shocks. You could leave the shock mounts alone on the axle and install crossmembers with mounts for the shock uppers if you want.If both sets are the same ratio and the rear is ok,you could just swap the front for now.Don`t get rid of the donor truck until you`re done the t-case swap. You may need a crossmember or misc.parts.Probably have to swap trans/t-case unit.
