Ball joints for 72

Is it possible to use any newer style ball joints that cost less that are a direct fit in a 72 1/2 ton 2wd w/ disc brakes?

tx.

Re: Ball joints for 72

I have not seen a real price diff on balljoints but the 72 1/2 ton takes 6117 on the bottom and 6124 on the tops ------ 6136 may fit the tops also -- try it before installing. Moog 6136 are a lot of 73-91

Re: Ball joints for 72

I cant help on part#, but.....71-72 are one deal on the ball joints, & the 73-87? , use the same LOWER ball joint, but the upper joint, & outer tierod end are different. You could swap in the 73-up spindles, using the corresponding pcs. Im not sure if that will save you anything......unless you are going to do drop spindles(cheaper 73-up). best of luck, L

Re: Ball joints for 72

I just did a bit of research, and the 71-72 upper ball joints are 68 dollars each and the 73-87 uppers are 38 each (at O Reilly auto parts, all Moog stuff). That is a considerable difference, but by the time you swapped a bunch of stuff over to 73-87 parts to save money on cheaper ball joints, you'd just be cheaper to buy the 71-72 upper ball joints in the first place.

Like was said, the same lower ball joint fits 71-87, so no difference there.
