Any ideas on shipping a motor from MI to NJ?
I have a line on a motor in Taylor MI but owner knows nothing of shipping something like this. Can anyone offer any suggestions on having a motor picked up and shipped?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks! |

Since the owner isn't shipping smart you will need to do it this way. Contact a trucking company or shipping broker to arrange for it to be picked up. He should strap the engine to a pallet to make it transportable. Unless he has a truck loading dock at home you will need to have a dock truck with a lift gate go out to pick it up. They will take it back to the terminal and transfer to a larger truck for delivery to you. You can save some money if he can drop the engine and pallet off at the local freight terminal and then you pick up at the freight terminal nearest you. Otherwise you will once again pay for a dock truck with a lift gate to drop everything off at your place.
I had an engine shipped from one of the Carolina's to Minnesota(dock to liftgate delivery for $135) The guy I purchased the 86 Vette TPI and 700R had a great shipping discount. This was at least 5 years ago by the way. In the freight business it's really who you know in order to get the great rate discounts. He was getting 70% off(unheard of rate!). I get 55-65% off any rates via work and can even get 1 skid shipped for $52 in the 8 state Mid West area. It pays to know a shipping manager in a business with a lot of trucking.......

I bought a complete 6.5TD from Michigan and the shipping was $195.I have no idea who the company was or if companies get special rates. But,you could go to www.peninsulardiesel.com and pick their brain if you want.

If he's willing to travel, you can also use Amtrak Heavy Express.
