tilt steering columns?
I'm getting to the point of picking which tilt steering column to use. I though of a orginal one, using one from a chevy van and was considering a custom one from ididit company (http://www.ididit.com/steel_chrome_tilt_column.htm)
Have any of you guys bought one from ididit company and how did it fit. thanks Rick |

Re: tilt steering columns?
I don't know about the Ididit one but the van tilts seem to stick out a little further than my factory did.

Re: tilt steering columns?
I not only collapsed the intermediate shaft but also cut about 2" off it. Then mounted the column as tucked in as possible. It's nice to have all that room.

Re: tilt steering columns?
my neighbor has an Ididit for his 56 1/2T. it looks just like a factory tilt except for the chrome. I just have a problem shelling out over $400 for one with column shift.

Re: tilt steering columns?
So what tilts work in our trucks? I've seen plenty around here for sale out of mid 80s suburbans, 70's 4x4 trucks.. are they all the same for 2x4 and 4x4?

Re: tilt steering columns?
Pomona, CA has a huge swap meet/psuedo car show every 6 weeks. People drive/tow their stuff there, usually the restorable types, to sell. Its quite organized, cars on one side, volks, corvettes have their own section and the others ford, chevy, dodge/chrys are all kind of mixed together. Some vehicles for sale are completely restored, others need some stuff. The other half of the place has parts, new, used for sale. Vendors are there too.

Re: tilt steering columns?
I went to the last Pamona and it was butt azz cold.....Walked the entire swap meet or 2 hrs and only found three guys that were selling tilt columns. I got back to my truck at 8:00 and it was only 40 degrees.
1 column was used and in horrible condition. 2nd guy was selling used/rebuilt ones but didn't have any there.... wanted $385 for the van that was completely redone w/ all of the mods and $485 for the truck ones. I ended up w/ purchasing one from the truck store for $404 but still waiting for it to be shipped to me Redneckdds - I don't know where you found yours so cheap??? Re: tilt steering columns?
I think you will find Flaming River is much better and a little more expensive.
It sounds like there are some confusing prices and applications being compared on this thread. Be careful! Floor shift tilts sell a lot cheaper than column shifts. Look at all the extra arms, levers etc. Look at the quality of the column and arms. FR is "stainless"! Remember to add in the cost of any special add on pieces that are required for the installation...like "D" shafts need a new intermediate shaft to hook to our steering boxes...$$$. Get the whole price, when you compare. |
