Re: help with casting #
Hey randy, i am guessing they are 3998993 which would be 69-74 truck or pass car. 350 or 307. MAYBE a 72 vette with 200 hp. My book also reads "light duty". Hope this helps, Eric

Re: help with casting #
with too much stuff. I think that's 3998993. I think they will also say "Hecho en Mexico" somewhere close to that casting # or date code.
The late John Lingenfelter listed these along with the 487 and 441 as the only large chamber heads he would consider rebuilding. However, at the time he wrote this opinion, the Vortec head was just becoming known for its performance capabilities.

Re: help with casting #
Thanks for the help guys!! Gman I pretty sure they are Made in USA as I don't remeber seeing mexico on it and from the 72 casting # or is that # not the year? Sorry I don't know jack about motors. Eric I believe this maybe the original heads on the truck and a newer block IE right side alt and LWP. I 'm not sure but it looks like the mounting holes in the head is there for the correct location of the alt, would that mean they are 72 heads and does the block matter on the location of the PS pump and alt?clik on the link in sig for pics of the motor. Thanks so much for the help!!!!! Randy

Re: help with casting #
My book reads accy mounting holes for those heads, and K-16-72 should be nov 16 1972, which should be the 73 model year. If you can get date code and cast # off the back of the block, i can identify that also. Sorry, but i'm not sure on the PS mount and alt. The blocks were the same for a number of years.
