Re: 1970 body mounts

They're easy to locate, but most or all of the heads are welded to the body, so you'll have to do some grinding or cutting. If they're poly bushings, make sure you grease them so they don't squeak. I would recommend doing one entire side, then the other side. If you have a top, make sure it's bolted on, it will help keep the body straighter in the end. Umm, you'll probably have to play with the shims a bit in the end to straighten the body back out so the doors close ok. That's the toughest part. Good luck and don't forget pics!!

Re: 1970 body mounts

The rear set were the toughest for me. I had to remove radiator to do the radiator support ones.

Gotta watch the steering shaft along with the fan and shround clearance while your jacking up the body.. Also I would watch the fuel tank lines while your jacking it up..

Re: 1970 body mounts

The torque for the body mounts below the windshield is 50 ft lbs. The rest are 20 ft lbs. I have not seen any specifications on the radiator support mounts, but I heard it is 30 to 35 ft. lbs. This is for the rubber mounts, poly I don’t know.

Re: 1970 body mounts

Jimmy72custom, were did you find the torques specs? I replaced mine several months ago, but couldn't find any torque specs. The question has come up here several times too. At 50ft lbs., aren't you squeezing the crap out of the rubber? It didn't take much to compress the rubber.

Re: 1970 body mounts

I have it written in my notes. I do not remember where I got them. I do remember that it was hard to find. 50/20 ft lbs is not that much. It is easy to over tighten. My mounts still have the crap in them ;-)
