Opinions on 1-piece windows

I am considering buying the 1-piece window system from Brothers and am looking for peoples' opinions on how they work. I have read all the threads on the board, but want additional opinions.

I am buying them to reduce wind noise and to get a better vision through my side mirrors [to avoid remounting them]. Will the 1-piece do this for me?

My major concern is that they have to helped [guided] when rooling up or down. Is this true?

How do they work when on the road?.... street and highway speed?

How about manual vs. power?

Any help is appreciated

thanks,
diggy

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

I put a set from Brothers in my CST about a month ago. Not really too difficult to do....just time consuming...especially the first one. The other side goes much faster. Pretty good instructions included with the set. Mine roll up and down real nice and I like the looks of them. I bought the light tint. No power....just armstong. Lot's less windnoise though.

Lemield - Did you install them in stock or aftermarket doors? I want to do them too, but have aftermarket doors, and have heard there are some fit problems with them in the upper channel.

Hi Glock35ipsc,

I put them in stock doors. It was kinda painful to cut the door to install them but they look and work nice. I have heard that there are fit problems with aftermarket doors...call Brothers...they are great and will be glad to talk to you. I had put a set of one piece windows in a 1971 Beetle that I built and liked them. I guess it's ironic that I put them in my CST since I refused to cut the dash for a CD player and then I went and cut the door for a one piece window. Brothers suggests that you remove the door when doing the install. That is a good idea if you have a helper or a door installation/removal tool like I do. It's also a great time to replace your worn out hinge pins and bushings. What a HUGE difference that made on both my trucks. Since you are close by, you can borrow the door tool if you want.

Regards,

Thanks for the offer! I have basically replaced everything on this truck, hinges included. About the only original pieces left will be the cab, cowl, and grill. Everything down to the hinges, latches, rods, everything is new!! And since the doors are will be off after the body mock-up, that might be a good time to try the windows.

You might PM Subtle71. He had a set installed (manual) and switched to power and swears they are waaaaay better now. He did have an issue with it popping off the track on the passenger side, but his were installed in an aftermarket door. I believe the track issue is resolved now.

The issue with mine on the passenger side window jumping off track was actually due to some wiring inside my Goodmark doors that went to the magnetic contacts for the security system. The wires are now now re-routed and secured so that they will not interfere with window again.

As for the performance, they work very well. Even at highway speeds they line up and seal properly. Mine are also the lighly tinted option. I recommend them!

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

The PO had them installed on my truck and to be honest.. I HATE THEM. If I could go back I would. I like the vented windows.. brings in a nice breeze on a pretty day.

I'm sure there is something screwed up with mine though. might take the time to find it one day

Is it not hard to put the vented windows back in? I didn't think it would be easy is why I haven't been concerned with it.

Got a guy coming to look at the truck tonight. If he doesn't buy it I'm keeping it and will definetly contact you about a trade

Stingray72,

If you want to go back to vent windows, you will need to weld in some sort of support for the vent window assembly....the original gets cut out when installing the one piece....certainly doable but probably better when you don't have a nice paint job...I guess it depends on how much of the original support is left in the door. It's just something to think about.

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

I finally got all the weatherstripping and such done with mine, and I am very satisfied. They look good, and mine roll up and down just fine, a little stiff because of the new weatherstripping but not bad.
I won't be able to report on the difference between these vs. using vent windows because my vent windows were broken and I never used them.

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

Stock doors. The only gripe I have with the kit is that the instructions suck. Poorly written and dark, blurry pictures. Other than that, great kit.

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

back to the top on this.
Is brothers the only place to get these? I have alot of wind noise in my truck at highway speeds and would like to fix that. I might be better off just redoing my vent windows, I should have done that before the truck was finished I had them out and everything.

Re: Opinions on 1-piece windows

Brothers is not the only place to get them, I think a few people resell the Brothers kits. Brothers just have the easiest to install, best supported, best fitting/operating with good quality motors. You could probably get them cheaper elsewhere (not now - they're on sale @ Brothers), but why bother?
