What does it do when you turn the key on? Does it go to past empty when grounded out?

it stays at about an 1/8th when key is on. I'll try addind a ground to the sender and see.

Sounds like the sender is bad.

You can pull the sender out,adn take it apart, and clean the inside with a piece of sandpaper 400-600 grit, and sometimes it'll work.Mine did.

How much does a new sending unit cost?

Re: Fuel gauge still don't work after fix a guage resistor

If it goes past full when you unhook it and then to 1/8 of a tank when its plugged back in, then the gage is working and the unit is grounded. Pull your sending unit and you may find that your float has a hole in it and is basically staying in the same place. Or the little box looking thingy is bad.

The other thing you might want to try is putting more than 1/8 tank of fuel in the truck

Sorry, couldn't resist

I would check the float. Takes a few minutes.

Re: Fuel gauge still don't work after fix a guage resistor

i think my sending unit and parts were about $50 from gmcpauls. ordered as stated below...
(CP 72-9300-A) In Cab Fuel Sending Unit6772 - 72 Auto Trans. V8 or 6cyl
($42.95) X 1 = $42.95
Fuel Sender Lock Ring 67-72 ($4.95) X 1 = $4.95
(CP-67-9305) Fuel Sender O-Ring 67-72 ($2.95) X 1 = $2.95

Re: Fuel gauge still don't work after fix a guage resistor

Well it is the sending unit I have the one for the poly blazer tank conversion and used it to test and it worked with it so the sending unit is bad. I guess I need to get the blazer tank in and run a filler.

Re: Fuel gauge still don't work after fix a guage resistor

I had a similar problem when I had my tank repaired, When I put the sendeing unit back in the float fell off inside the tank. I was a B*&&&^ to get out.ordered a new sending unit from chevy duty, Oh I forgot, That place that used to be chevy duty.pretty good price and it came with the gasket,no mo problems.

Re: Fuel gauge still don't work after fix a guage resistor

Like I said,I fixed mine with a piece of sandpaper.Just pulled it out,and pulled the box apart, cleaned the contacts, and put it back together.Worked fine for nearly 2 years now.
