Cool License Plate Story

So I head up to the DMV today to get a temp-plate for the '67 Panel truck. Turns out a one year plate is less then a 30 day temp plate.

She goes and gets the plate, and it is 1963 MU

I ask her if it is possible to get 1967 MU, she says it is 4 away. Goes to see her supervisor who goes to see her manager...

.. I end up with the plate 1967 MU How cool is that

Re: Cool License Plate Story

Joe, Does that mean that the panel will now be sporting a "holstien" paint job?

Re: Cool License Plate Story

Had a similar experience with my 68 short step. Went to get the plate, and without asking she says hold it a minute and goes to their storage closet and brings out a plate that ended in 68. Gotta love doing business in a small town where they know ya.

Re: Cool License Plate Story

I have one, but not a happy ending. I went to DMV to get plates for my 68 4X4 Burb and I recieved solid copper Historic Vehicle plates, they are way cool and super heavy!! Oh, the unhappy part is the the 68 is the one I lost control of the trailer it was on and it rolled (see: Does this look familiar? in the Burb thread) I still have the cool plates, I guess I can hang em on the wall?!

Re: Cool License Plate Story

I was thinking about MU, too bad it wasn't PU for Pickup

No more real plans for the Panel, if it doesn't sell this summer, I'll have a rusty driver to enjoy while I work on the Pickup

Re: Cool License Plate Story

Yup that is a sweet story, my father had almost the same experience with his 1971 plates, they say JG 1971, those are his initials (he refuses to get handicap plates on the truck because of his license plate)

Re: Cool License Plate Story

Cool tags. You`ll have to get a story behind the MU.Jerry is only the first one to ask,I thought the same thing when I first read it.People will think it`s a vanity-plate.I like 1969 GMC`s answer.

1967 Michigan Utility.
or
1967 Muscle Utility.

To bad it didn't have a V - it'd make more sense. Still, the 1967 is a good score!

The last time I drove through Ely, MN, everybody's plates were ELY xxx.
Somebody in St. Paul was on the ball.

Re: Cool License Plate Story

When I put plates on my '68 C-20, I decided to go with Farm Plates (I live on 5 acres and I farm a garden and yard) because KY has a greaty looking farm plate with the FFA corn cobb, FFA Owl setting on the Plow and 4H symbols on it, with the Sun rising from behind the plowed field.

Anyway, She brings out 'JD 324' I asked if she had 'JD 327' (since the truck came with a 327) and she goes over finds it and issues me the JD 327 plate. In this case the JD is for John Deere or my Dad's initals and nickname when he was alive, so I had to have it!! Dad had a '67 C-10 he bought new in '67.

Re: Cool License Plate Story

My story along the same line. We can buy Ducks Unlimited plates in Wisconsin, and I was thinking about buying them for my truck. I sent my wife to the DMV and she came back with regular plates. Ironicly they start with DU. I thought it was pretty cool.

Re: Cool License Plate Story

A buddy of mine put his pro-street Vega back to street legal a number of years ago. When he went to get plates, he was handed "FLY-355". The car has a 355 with a Powerglide, and at low 10's, it does fly!
