Which ones are correct?

Ok, another series of questions. First, which os these upper ball joints are correct one for my swap? The left one fits easier but it looks older design. they came in my front disc swap which I bought from Brothers truck last year. Does it matter if they are different? can you tell which model year they are?
Second question is about second picture. Which way is the correct way of placing the ball joint? left one or right one?If the left one is the correct one with the correct ball joint (the newer looking one) How can I pass the dust cap through the hole since it seems to be pressed in?
thanks in advance.

Re: Which ones are correct?

I replaced to passenger side upper ball joint in my 68 over a year ago. I wanna say the one on the right looks like what I used, but its a 3/4 ton with drum brakes. I don't know why a disc brake swap kit would have to different types of ball joint.

Not sure if I follow you on the second question. The ball joint goes in from the top of the A-arm. I'm trying to remember what it looked like when I did mine but I'm pretty sure I took the nut off and slid the dust boot off. After it's bolted down put the dust boot back on from the bottom. It may be a tight fit when you go to bolt it to the spindle as the dust boot is partly compressed by the spindle.

Don't hold me to this, someone else will be along with a more positive answer I'm sure. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Keep us posted.

Re: Which ones are correct?

Thanks for writting back. Well this picture may explain the difference between them better. it seems on the one on the right the dust cap is sealed at the bottom (red arrow) and that seal doesn't do through the hole. I like the way that one looks, it look stronger that the one on the left.

Re: Which ones are correct?

well those don't look anything like the ball joints on my truck but like TUG said they go in from the top if you can't get the dust cover off to fit it through the hole you may have the wrong one. Just My .02 if hopefully someone from brothers will get on here and clarifiy why they are two diffrent ones.

Re: Which ones are correct?

Did both of those ball joints come in the kit you bought from us? The one on the right is the one that looks closest to the one in our kit. Our supplier relies on a couple different sources for his ball joints, tie rod ends...so there may be slight difference in apperance from one kit to the next. The ball joint in the three kits I just opened all measure 4 1/4" in height. As for installing them. They bolt in from the top of the controll arm. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you recieved 2 different ball joints with your kit.

Re: Which ones are correct?

Yes, they came in your kit. The one on the right even doesn't go through the a-arm. I guess I have to try to make it to your show room today. Just go to front desk?
By the way I bought the kit close to year ago, I just didn't have time to put them together. I have the receipt though.

Re: Which ones are correct?

Yea, if you can come in today, that would be great. I am here until noon. Ours hours for today are 8am - 12pm. Bring either your entire kit or just the ball joints and we'll correct the problem.
