What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
Need some feedback on what headers fit a 4 Speed 4WD Truck. I took a rusty set off of this truck that ran the back tube on the drivers side in front of the bar that is attached to the the clutch rod, this is what I am looking for but I don't know what brand they were. I would prefer not to have the bar run between the header pipes. Thanks

Good question. I've got 4 speed manual truck with ram-horns...but am thinking about headers some day. Will keep my eye on this thread.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
I`ve never seen an affirmative answer to this question, unless it was Hooker Super Comps. The only time I`ve put headers on a 4spd 4wd I had to modify the z-bar by moving the lower leg(make sure you clean all the grease out first. Some people have been known to start a fire in the tube before).

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
The headers I took off fit fine without any modification. I just didn't look at the close enough before I tossed them. Didn't even think about it. It seems that they might have been Hooker headers, I just can't can't remember for sure. Its hell getting old!

Maybe you could home-port out some ram-horns.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
I read here that a member claimed the Hooker Super Competitions worked. But,I`m not sure enough to get them for my 4spd truck. It was a while ago and I`m not sure why,but I don`t recall it was ever verified.I was hoping this thread would bring out the facts.Maybe post it in the 4x4 section.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
flowtech makes a header that will clear the z-bar one a 4spd 2wd no problem. they sell them @ autozone for $85 for a painted set. i have them on my '69. sandblasted the old paint off and painted with VHT paint. they've been on a month and haven't had any trouble out of them. chris.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
Here is a picture of my project. As you can see I still need exhaust! Hopefully next week I will order some headers. Thinking of going with Heddman headers.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
I Just got off the phone with my Brother and I was mistaken. He was originally going with the Hedman Elites but was told that they may need to be modified. He Bought Doug Thorley Tri-Y Nickel Plated and those he did not have to do any modifacations to the truck or headers! They fit Great and Sound Great!

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
I put Hooker super Comps on my truck last summer. I had to modify the Z-bar as everybody said above. Really wasn't hard to do.
I'm pretty unhappy with the quality of the ceramic coating on them though. They haven't even been on a year and they're getting pretty rusty. Lots of pitting and areas where the coating was too thin (between tubes and flanges). They fit good, but I wouldn't waste your money on the ceramic version. Oh, yeah, Hooker's dual exhaust system doesn't fit either (at least not on a Blazer) OK I'm done ranting...maybe this should be in the review forum.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
I know how you feel . I bought Dynamax ceramic coated headers for my 67 and only put 1500 miles on them and I never even drove it in the rain and they were rusting within one year. I sold the truck but still I was expecting much better quality.

Re: What headers for a 4 Speed manual transmission?
Heddman makes an 1 5/8" full length header that works with the stock clutch linkage on a 4x4. I ran a set on my Jimmy for 10 years before the 2 1/2" 'vette rams horns. Best I can tell, 68-82 Corvette full length headers should work, but look into it first!
