Hooker Super Comps

I'm looking at Hooker Super Comps for a big block 2wd. How far do they hang down from the chassis? Ground clearance is my only worry. But any other advice is welcome. I'm looking at the two inch primaries as I think the 502 needs a bigger pipe.
Neil.

Re: Hooker Super Comps

They hang low being equal length primaries, but are built for the best performance, not clearance. I've had the 1-7/8" and the 2" shown and they are the same.

Here's a pic of my Hooker Comps. 2" primary 3 1/2" collector. These are Chevelle headers, part # 2455

Pics a lil blurry, but you can get a general idea.

Re: Hooker Super Comps

Wow guys that is great information, why can't you get this info on manufacturer's sites? Time to get the tape measure out and see what I can get away with. I just put a 502/502 in my 3800lb truck, the 60' is good at 1.67 but it is not pulling at the top end as it is only doing 105mph. We are going to try some more timing, have changed the coil and think that bigger primaries may help. Actually cutting the roof off would help but I don't want to go that far!

Re: Hooker Super Comps

Sounds like your running out of carb? What are you running?

Re: Hooker Super Comps

850 double pumper, half inch fuel line splitting to two 3/8 lines at the regulator, blue top pump holds 7psi at the carb all the way. I don't think we had enough timing at 34 degrees, and are going to put in 36 next time. Old coil had a resistance of 4.1 ohm, new one is 4.7 ( both Blaster 2).
Open to suggestions!
Neil.

34 isn't that much, try even 38. I take it your running mechanical secondaries vac are good on the street but not as good for racing. Also may sound stupid, but have someone check you carb to make sure your getting full opening on both when you put it to the floor. Other than that how do the plugs look after a wide open run.

Re: Hooker Super Comps

Yes mechanical secondaries, I think that it is the timing, yes getting full throttle. How much does running a truck hurt your terminal speed in comparison to a car of the same power? I mean the poor aerodynamics.

Re: Hooker Super Comps

How much horsepower would the tuned length headers make over the Comps shown? both with two inch primaries. I do like that ground clearance and it is street/strip, they would be cheaper too.
Neil.
